Harley-Davidson has released it’s latest version of the Street Glide and Road Glide. These are the 10 things to know before you ride the new 2024 Harley-Davidson Road Glide (FLTRX) & Street Glide (FLHX) motorcycles.
- Easiest starting of a H-D Touring bike ever. Hold down the start button for 3-5 seconds on the right side of the bars and the bike starts.
- The handle bar setup is completely new and almost backwards to what we are used to.
- Indicators same spot just convex not a bump.
- The horn is in the same spot but now part of the left indicator.
- The most important button is the Menu or “Motorcycle” button above the left indicator…it brings up the Home Screen.
- Remember when you moved around the Infotainment with the button on the right side of the bars. That is gone. Now, see the arrows as part of the dial on the left side right next to the Motorcycle button. That moves you around and press the center to select.
- Music controls are on the right side of the bar.
- Stock windscreens on the FLHX are good for riders under 5 foot 11…if you are over 5 foot 11 inches opt for the FLTRX or change windscreens to prevent wind in your face, unless you like that kind of thing.
- Stock bikes do not have heel/toe shifters or a second key fob from the factory. Try one of the new Packages from your H-D dealer like the Day Tripper or Long Haul for some cool upgrades including the heel/toe and two key fobs.
- The bike has three screen options…if you are more old school, use Cruise…where its a large Speedo, Tach and in the center either Music or GPS.
- If it is summer, go to Settings and Display and change to High Contrast. You will thank me.
- If you are pairing a helmet, Cardo works best. If Sena, pair the helmet to the bike and your phone to the bike. Do not pair you helmet to the phone. This will not work. The bike has to be the Master, controlling the helmet and the phone separately.
- The bike has Apple Car Play. You must have a Bluetooth communicator to get the functionality. Google who owns Android does not support Android Car Play any more for two-wheel bikes.
- The motorcycle has Ride Modes. The selector is on the right handle bar. Rain Mode is self explanatory. Road Mode is for 90% of your riding and saves a bit of fuel. Sport Mode makes the throttle very responsive. It’s a bit dangerous in a group ride. Sport Mode is 100% power so its fun but be ready for the launch.
- Know your weight and the weight of your passenger (and gear). Typically, at Durham Harley-Davidson, we ensure the Right Shock Preload has been set to at least 200lbs and then adjust the Left Shock by another 100lbs for a passenger and or gear.
